My Newest Pen and Bookmark Holder

Those who know me understand that I love a good travel adventure. That’s why I’m excited to tell you about my trip to kiwi land. We’ll be meeting my sister and brother-in-law, Julie and Bob, in Auckland to explore both islands. It’s going to be a great adventure!

If you’ve been watching the news, you may have heard about all of the recent flooding in Auckland, which required shutting down the airport. Fortunately, it’s open again, and we’re hoping it stays that way for the duration of our trip. They are expecting more rain, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it doesn’t cause more flooding or other problems.

We have a fun-filled itinerary planned for New Zealand, including whale watching, hiking, a helicopter ride to the glaciers, a jet boat ride and funyak (inflatable canoe) tour, a visit to a glow worm cave, a boat cruise in Milford Sound, and a lunch tour of Hobbiton, to name a few of our planned activities. Let’s hope the weather cooperates. Although it’s summer there, I have to be prepared for warm, cold, and wet weather, so my suitcase is jam-packed. Unfortunately, I’ve never been good at packing light. I always want to be prepared for anything—it must be my Minnesota upbringing, always prepared for a blizzard!

I’m really looking forward to seeing this country that has been on my bucket list for quite some time. I won’t be doing any author interviews while I’m gone, but they pick up again in March. I’ll be sure to let you know how the trip went after I get back. Stay tuned for photos!

  1. How exciting Heidi! I love reading your newsletters.
I’ve been paying $10 a month to continue the program for mine but haven’t written anything in over six months. You totally inspire me! Maybe I’ll write a newsletter about my upcoming whale watching trip in Baja. 🐳
And I totally get what you mean about packing. I think it’s the worst part about traveling. But of course always worth it for the adventure.
I wish you all the best in your travels. I’ve never been to Australia so I look forward to seeing your photos and post. Bon voyage!

    1. Thanks for the comment, Nancy. Whale watching in Baja is the best! I would love to hear about your trip. We’ll be going on a whale-watching trip in Kaikoura, where we hope to see sperm whales. Fingers crossed!

  2. Have a great trip, Heidi and stay safe. Remember, you’ll lose a day when you cross that International Date Line, but you’ll gain one when you come back. Enjoy yourself and hopefully a new story will come out of this trip.

  3. Have a wonderful time! Yes, you will need to be prepared for every kind of weather 😂! And if you are even thinking about visiting the west coast of the south island, bring insect repellent!

      1. It should be summer down there now. And don’t forget that moss will grow on the south side of the trees.
