Work, commute, family responsibilities, exercise, chores, errands–oh, and don’t forget having fun and maintaining relationships and friends. When do I find time to write? I’ve been struggling with this for a long time. Usually I end up squeezing in little bits of writing in the evenings and on the weekend, in between other things, and usually when I am tired from a long day. This is not good writing practice.

Most successful writers recommend designating time to write every day on a set schedule, but so far, I haven’t managed to make that a reality in my life. I usually write every week, but definitely not on a schedule, and my writing always seems to take a back seat to life’s other responsibilities. My solution is to take this week off from work to have a book revision sprint. This week, writing is  my #1 priority.

Book coach Jennie Nash offers periodic blueprint sprints on her Author Accelerator website (http://www.authoraccelerator.com/revision-sprint/), but I’m not ready to commit to that, so I have come up with my own plan.

My goal is to spend the time normally devoted to my job and commute on revising my book during the first half of my “vacation,” and then reward myself during the second half with a fun, local get-away with my sweetheart. I don’t know if I can get all of the remaining revisions done in such a short time, but I should be able to make a good dent. Wish me luck, creativity, and speed!

  1. What a fabulous idea you’ve hatched! I know it’s a lot of work, but I think it’ll be a great race. You’ve already got creativity for sure, so I wish you speed, luck, some inspiration to keep you going, and a glorious dash across the finish line. Go Heidi, go!!!

  2. Wow! What a balancing act! Although I am not a writer, per se, I’ve found that sound of my better ideas/solutions come when I am asleep. Pay attention to this! Good luck, Heidi! 😘

  3. Hey you. I hope you have a productive and wonderful vacation. My apologies for not getting back to you to reschedule our lunch… I hate to say it, but sometime in July? How can life get so crazy?

    1. Thanks, Lori! My first day of vacation was very productive. We are gone the first week of July, but should be around after that. Let’s find a date that works!
